We snapped this butterfly over the weekend in Vermont, while walking around farmland and woods. I've been trying to identify it. It seems to be a "Red Spotted Purple". However, online photos of RSP buterflies are lacking the white bands that my butterfly has arcing across its open wings. I suppose that just like people, butterflies are individuals in their beauty.
I'm marking this one as a Red Spotted Purple. Unless of course, you know different...

Very lovely, I love butterflies. Seems like we see so few of them these days. Thank you for sharing this little bit of special beauty from your time in Vermont.
Cute critter, Susan. Not an overkeen fan of Butterflies - they move too weirdly for my liking!
Could he be a White Admiral (Limenitis arthemis arthemis)?

Oh that is so lovely, we are experiencing a distinct lack of butterflies at the moment because our weather is so awful, I miss them, also our migrating birds are so confused I am worried that they wont have time to have a proper brood and will go back to Africa!! Its so cold and wet here in the UK!!!
